Welcome to "Splinters"...Tree Boards and municipal organizations are an important ingredient in the green industry mix for the state of Montana. They are vital to the health and well-being of trees within a community. Here we share the comings and goings of those organizationss around the state. We encourage tree boards to share in their accomplishments, ideas and programs that are not only successful for their communities but can be utilized across our large state. Feel free to send us your news that we can publish here and share with everyone who loves trees. Send information to:   billingsbotanical2@gmail.com

Spring Headlines

As we look ahead, here are three important updates:

Statewide Urban Forestry Assessments:
We’ll soon be sending out invitations—in collaboration with our partners—to communities and industry professionals across Montana to participate in our statewide urban forestry assessments. The goal of the assessments are to identify community-specific strengths and gaps in urban forestry (e.g. tree management, staffing, and budgeting) as well as workforce development needs to guide urban forestry programming, education programs, and policy. We received Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval from Rocky Mountain College just yesterday! A small pilot test of the survey will take place before the full launch.

Small Grant Applications Opens:
Calls for applications for our Small Grant programs are open. These are exciting opportunities to support urban forestry initiatives in communities with populations under 3500 for activities such as tree inventories, tree care and management plans, pruning, hazard tree removal and replacements, tree board support, trainings, and more.

Youth Workforce Development Program:
We’re currently partnering with others to design a multi-partner youth workforce program focused on building skills and careers in urban forestry. If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved in the early design and planning stages, please reach out!
